7.5.2019 U.S. and Taliban resume talks in Doha
KABUL (SW) – Talks between the U.S. and Taliban resumed in the Qatari
capital, Doha on Tuesday after a gape of one day.

Suhail Shaheen, spokesman for Taliban’s Qatar office, told Salam Watandar
these talks are centered on the withdrawal of foreign troops from
Afghanistan, and not using Afghanistan to pose threats against other
countries of the world. He claimed progress has been made in these talks.

Spokesman for Taliban’s Qatar office asserted the insurgents are only
engaging in talks on matters related to this group. Shaheen added
intra-Afghan talks on internal matters would commence after an agreement
on these two matters. He added there might be no need for more rounds of
talks if an agreement is reached now.

On Monday, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation,
Zalmay Khalilzad, visited India. Khalilzad held talks with India’s External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and briefed her on peace efforts in
Afghanistan, the Indian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesman Raveesh Kumar
said in a tweet on Monday.
