10.2.2019    Karzai linked foreign forces pullout with stability in Afghanistan

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai says peace in Afghanistan will not prevail unless a cease-fire is declared and bloodshed isn't stopped. Talking to a Russian media outlet Karzai hoped that talks in Moscow would bring long-awaited peace, national sovereignty, and progress to the Afghan people. “We discussed all the issues important to the Afghan people. Peace in Afghanistan will not prevail unless a cease-fire is declared and bloodshed isn't stopped. At the first meeting, we addressed issues relating to an independent, free Afghanistan, where Afghans will govern, where women can enjoy their full rights,” he told Sputnik during an exclusive interview. “We will discuss the remaining questions at the next summit, which will be held in Doha,” the former president added. Karzai linked the pull out of foreign forces with stability in Afghanistan. “We must be careful, because it is necessary to make sure that the foreign contingent leaves Afghanistan, and that Afghanistan is stable and calm,” he said. The former president expressed his deep gratitude to Russia on behalf of all the Afghan people, as well as from the Taliban. He said the two-day meeting exceeded all the expectations the participants had. “We hope that the talks in Moscow, as well as the decisions that have been made here, will bring long-awaited peace, national sovereignty, and progress to the Afghan people,” he said.
