KABUL (SW) – Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah, has criticized the United
Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan in connection with the recount
of presidential vote’s process.

A well-placed source told Salam Watandar that Abdullah, a presidential
candidate, met UNAMA chief and UN Secretary-General's Special
Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto, on Tuesday and
expressed his concerns and criticism. The source said the meeting was very
serious in which Chief Executive Abdullah said the UNAMA stance on recount
of votes ahead of the completion of sorting process was questionable.

According to the source, Abdullah asked the UNAMA chief for clarification
in regard to letter by this body in which Mawlana Abdullah, an electoral
commission candidate, was charged with levelling ethnic slurs and threats
against a colleague during an official meeting at the Independent Election
Commission. Abdullah said sending a letter citing incomplete information
in such the tone was not right in the current situation in Afghanistan,
and it could spark ethnic and religious sentiments. He added it has
provoked the people of Afghanistan against the UN mission.

The source said the Chief Executive told the UN representative that such
actions of the organization were damaging to the UN's credibility and were
"dangerous and critical" for Afghanistan.

The Chief Executive told UNAMA chief, Yamamoto that his election team,
Stability and Partnership, is watching closely the diplomatic movements
and the stance of all those involved in the election because "the Afghan
people are the main victims of the election fraud and no party or group
has right to influence the outcome”.

We tried to get the view of UNAMA and the Chief Executive’s office, but we
failed.
